Homeless Housing - IS NOT - being financially addressed adequately.

According to the Canadian Definition of Homelessness, homelessness is “the situation of an individual, family, or community without stable, safe, permanent, appropriate housing, or the immediate prospect of the financial means and ability of acquiring it.”
Homelessness is not a choice, and there are many reasons why people experience homelessness, including the lack of structural supports for those experiencing poverty or job loss and inadequate discharge planning for those leaving hospitals, correctional facilities and mental health facilities.
By understanding homelessness and its causes, we can create plans to end it but without the physical building (and not a tent) the transition is extremely difficult. Many organizations are currently providing 'temporary' solutions for a bed, a meal, medical supports, clothing, sleeping bags, drug addition supports etc. - but - permanent housing isn't yet available in any quantity. In Winnipeg one view point is that there are somewhere under 100 'actual' homeless housing units while we have somewhere between 1,500 and 6,000 homeless! It's time to correct a very critical problem!
